Thomas Goyard, Ambassador #Windsurf

Hi Thomas, can you introduce yourself in a few words?

"Thomas Goyard, 26, I am still studying in an engineering school in La Rochelle where I’ve been living for 8 years. My goal is to work in the building and renewable energy sector. I am also a soldier in the Navy, as a high-level sports man in La Défense, in the Army of Champions, which is attached to the Joinville battalion.

I come from Nouméa, where I learned windsurfing with my parents. I grew up on a boat and lived in different places like Martinique, Tahiti, Nouméa but also in metropolitan France"

What is your sport and your track record that goes with it?

"Member of the French team, I practice windsurfing in the Olympic category and I aim to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. I was in the top 10 global ranking for several years and my best performance is 3rd world in 2014, and European champion in 2016.

I am also world foil champion of 2017, still in windsurf."

Have you recently participated in events? Have you achieved an important feat in your eyes?

"I just finished 7th at the Miami World Cup last January (2018).

A feat? I’m very proud to have been world champion in foil last year, but I think that it’s especially the life that I have that makes me the happiest. Combining studies, sports, it's really amazing and it's a chance that just few people have. I worked hard to get there, it doesn’t fall from the sky but I have great parents who helped me in the best way."

Do you have a lifestyle that you aspire to? What are your sources of inspiration?

"I have several lifestyles I aspire to, for now I chose this life of high level athlete who is well adapted to my age and my current profile. But deep inside me, I believe that a life of sharing passions on an island with my family and my friends, in contact with the nature and the elements is what’s best for me, away from the big cities, the noise and stressed people."

Do you place an emphasis on nutrition in your practice? If yes, why ?

"I'm giving a lot of importance to nutrition. I supplement a lot with seaweed, vitamins, lemon, recovery drinks, and now with Baouw! products before, during and after my efforts on the water or indoors.

I think today's fruits and vegetables are a lot less nutritious than before, I think we eat so much sugar, white flour, gluten,… Athletes do eat a lot, so I think it’s important to take care of the quality of our food. It’s also important to prevent disease and be healthy with constant energy."

What’s your relationship with Nature?

"I love nature, it's a great source of energy, it's beautiful, magical and that's why I need to be outdoors as much as possible. I try to respect it as best as I can, unfortunately I am well aware that my lifestyle sports is not the top in terms of carbon impact, what it consume in materials and various energies. This is also one of the reasons why I would like to have a really different life later. I lived on a boat with my parents until I was 18 years old and this kind of life had a real impact on me. There is really a way to consume less, differently and still be happy."

What are your future projects?

"To give my best in competition, my dream will be to be world champion this year in RSX (Olympic windsurfing) and also in foil! I also want to learn from various domains such as energy, meditation or quantum physics, which fascinate me. Every day, become a better person, give more time to my friends and family."

Baouwers, for real?

"100%, the products really agree with everything I love and with my values!"
