Our energy drinks are designed to give your body everything it needs during exercise, whatever your sport and whatever distance you cover! The key: good carbohydrates, electrolytes, BCAA, glutamine, taurine, vitamins and antioxydants (whose role is highlighted in our article on the benefits of antioxidants for athletes). All in a healthy, highly assimilable isotonic formula: who could do better?

The role of energy drinks during exercise
Our energy drinks are isotonic, which means they contain carbohydrates AND electrolytes (unlike our electrolyte tablets), for example, which accompany you on the field to help you compensate for your water losses with electrolytes but without carbohydrates). But why add carbohydrates to a sports drink at all? Here's a quick physio and nutrition update!
Why does your body need carbohydrates during exercise?
During intense or prolonged exercise, your body needs a rapidly available source of energy. That's where carbohydrates come in, as they're the preferred fuel for your muscles. Nothing less!
In everyday life, your body stores carbohydrates in the form of glycogen in the muscles and liver. During physical activity, it draws directly on these reserves to provide energy quickly, especially if the effort is sustained, as in endurance sports.
But beware: these stocks are limited. They can be used up in less than 2 hours, or even more quickly if the intensity is high. That's why you need to recharge your batteries during exercise, by providing your body with carbohydrates in the form of one of our energy drinks, a gel or an adapted energy purée.

- Hydration: 828 mg of the 4 essential electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium)
- Endurance: 1000 mg BCAA (ratio 4:1:1) * + antioxidants (C, E, zinc)
- Digestive protection: isotonic formula + carbohydrate ratio 1:0.8 + 100 mg glutamine
*4 leucine, 1 valine, 1 isoleucine: optimal ratio for BCAA absorption
Carbohydrates, but easy to digest!
Fuel for effort, yes, but fast! Glucose is an excellent source of energy, but it can only be absorbed up to a certain limit (around 60 g/hour). By combining it with fructose, which uses a different absorption route in the intestine, you increase the total quantity of carbohydrates assimilated without overloading your digestive system.
Our energy drinks also have an optimal glucose/fructose ratio: 1:0.8, ideal for efficient carbohydrate absorption. Our recipe also includes organic manioc maltodextrin (DE 10) for progressive energy without a blood sugar spike. And we've chosen this rather than corn maltodextrin because it's better digested, undergoes less processing and has a moderate glycaemic index . And since digestion is no easy task in the middle of an enduro race, your Baouw drinks are an important ally in nutrition for trail or during a marathon.

Our advice on how to use your Baouw energy drink properly
Our energy drinks are designed to be used during exercise. We recommend 1 portion per hour to cover standard carbohydrate requirements.
By adjusting the concentration of your powder, you can adapt the drink to the conditions of your day's training: your pace, the temperature and your desired carbohydrate intake.

Is Baouw an isotonic energy drink or not?
Exactly! As a drink formulated to meet your body's needs during intense exercise, it fits perfectly into the definition of theisotonic drink. For the record, carbohydrate intake can vary depending on the dosage, as shown in our table above.
Any advice on diluting the powder in water?
We've tested it, we've approved it, we can advise you!
1. Fill your water bottle ⅓ full of water
2. Add the powder and shake vigorously
3. Top up with water and shake again
Always adjust the concentration to your volume of drink per hour. The more you drink, the more you can dilute. The less you drink, the more you can concentrate.
What's the difference between energy drinks and electrolyte tablets?
The difference is that energy drinks contain carbohydrates, unlike hydration tablets. The electrolytes are also more concentrated in the drinks (thanks to the powder format, which is more flexible in manufacture). However, tablets are still more practical to use. 1 all, ball in the centre!
